LKB was retained by the Town of North Hempstead Solid Waste Management Authority to provide various engineering services for a complete evaluation of their existing Transfer Station Facility.
Services included the evaluation and determination of the current condition, recommended improvements for existing short-term and future long-term Town of North Hempstead solid waste operation needs considering a limited expenditure of capital dollars. New design recommendations were generated to include the installation of balers, demolition of the inactive incinerators, repair of facility infrastructure and automated scale house. Budgetary cost estimates were also provided.
As part of the evaluation, an initial structural inspection was performed on the building and accessible portions of the concrete slab. In addition, LKB evaluated the existing electrical service and distribution system, and provided engineering recommendations and design for electrical improvements. Construction support services were provided during the construction phase, which included coordination with utilities, equipment catalog cut approvals, shop drawing review, RFI management, and field change reviews.
