About this Project

LKB was retained by Nassau County Department of Public Works to provide design and construction support services for this project. LKB prepared the contract documents, including plans, specifications and estimates for the replacement of 500 feet of bulkhead and the replacement of a concrete boat ramp at Inwood Park, a Nassau County facility located in Inwood.

The existing wooden bulkhead protects the embankment along the shoreline of Motts Basin as well as a 40 foot wide by 100 foot long boat ramp. The wooden bulkhead was severely deteriorated with sinkholes in the embankment throughout. LKB performed an inspection and evaluation of the bulkhead and prepared a comprehensive report recommending its complete replacement. Based upon our evaluation of materials and retained fill heights, a composite sheet and wale were selected for design. In addition to the new bulkhead, the existing concrete boat ramp will be replaced with precast concrete panels. Other work included replacing the existing floating docks with an ADA compliant floating dock “ramp” and kayak launch, replacing railing and park benches and installing new ADA sidewalk ramps and overhead lighting.

LKB’s construction support services during the construction phase included review and approval of detailed shop drawings, catalog cuts, and miscellaneous submittals for compliance with contract documents; review and responses to RFI’s (Request for Information) and Change Order Requests; and attendance of progress and project meetings, as necessary.
