About this Project

LKB has been retained by NYS Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation to provide civil/structural engineering and structural inspection for this project. The reconstruction of this building is an ongoing project and is part of the overall improvements to Jones Beach, currently being planned and implemented by NY State Parks.

LKB prepared an Existing Conditions Survey Report and performed a structural analysis of the existing 80-year old, 10,000-square foot concession building located on the central boardwalk at Jones Beach. The existing survey included the inspection and finding of the existing restaurant building including: structural, electrical, mechanical, and architectural conditions, as well as code compliance.

The structural analysis included the analysis of existing timber and steel members with kitchen and ground floor dining and the reconfiguration of the roof to include dining. Structural analysis was performed to assess the existing steel and wood framing systems, and recommend repairs for any structural deficiencies. The design of new built up wood beams on existing piles below the boardwalk to replace the corroded steel beams supporting exterior wall columns was included as well. This work also required the design of a temporary support system, as well as brick masonry repair details, and the design of a brick parapet replacement.
