LKB was retained by the Town of Oyster Bay to provide engineering services to evaluate the existing electrical system and provide engineering recommendations and design for the installation of a generator at the Lake Avenue Central Vehicle Maintenance Facility. The intent of this project was to allow for continued operation in the event of power outages.
An existing conditions field survey of the electrical system was conducted to understand the requirements of the proposed improvements. The survey, along with a review of the Town’s requirements and budget limitations allowed LKB to provide engineering recommendations and a preliminary design for approval.
The design work included the installation of a new emergency generator at the back of the facility, installation of a new automatic transfer switch and disconnect switch in the electrical room, replacement of the existing distribution panel, coordination with utility services for electrical and gas requirements, trenching for new electrical emergency service and gas piping to the generator, connection of the new generator gas piping to the existing gas service, and replacement of the existing gas meter.
The electrical design team created a one-line diagram, provided instructions on how to properly install the emergency generator, provided instructions on how to test the generator after installation, and provided specifications for the electrical equipment for the project.
Final design documents, in addition to electrical plans, included details such as generator concrete pad, generator layout, fixed steel bollard, elevations and wire extension.
Our staff provided construction support services including on-site construction inspection, review of contractor bids, shop drawing reviews, RFI management and work cost estimation. Review and assessment of NEC, PSE&G and OSHA requirements, followed by engineering recommendations based on this review and existing conditions were also part of this project.
