Local Emergency Center Permanent Generators header

About this Project

LKB was retained by the Village of Lindenhurst to provide engineering services for the retrofit of a Community Center, as part of the recovery from Superstorm Sandy. LKB’s services included electrical design, construction support services, as well as construction management/ construction inspection services.

The Village of Lindenhurst’s NY Rising Community Reconstruction (NYRCR) Program of the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery’s (GOSR) Committee developed a plan for emergency preparation and readiness, evacuation routes and Village-wide rallying point maps, as well as post-emergency operations. As a part of this plan, the Community Center underwent a retrofit, intended to enable continued use of the facility as a Recovery Center during potential future storm and emergency events. The Rainbow Community Center was selected as it is a well-used multi-purpose facility that is not prone to flooding and is easily accessible via major and local roadways.

The scope of this job included the installation of an emergency generator to provide reliable backup power that can be accessed by the entire community. LKB reviewed the design documents, the contract drawings and conducted the electrical survey to confirm the proposed size of the generator. Upon acceptance of the contract documents by the Village of Lindenhurst, LKB provided services during the bidding phase, which included responding to inquiries from prospective bidders; review of contractors’ qualifications and references; preparation of a bid summary; and recommendation of the award to the lowest responsible and qualified bidder. LKB also provided construction support services and performed construction management/construction inspection services during and after the construction of the generator.
