LKB performed structural design and construction inspection and evaluation services for this County-funded bridge rehabilitation project. LKB performed the structural and civil design which included preparation of a Design Report, Preliminary and Final Contract drawings. As overall project manager, LKB also coordinated the mechanical and electrical design performed by others.
This moveable bridge consists of three spans, a double leaf bascule span and two flanking spans. The project included extensive steel repairs on all three spans, after which, the bascule spans were then balanced. Elements for this project included: load ratings, seismic evaluation, scour analysis and mechanical and electrical evaluation. Rehabilitation plans included repairs to structural steel members, approach roadway and sidewalks, concrete abutments and piers, and the timber fender system. Electrical work included replacing the main drive motors and rewiring the main power feeds. Mechanical work consisted of replacing span locks, replacing rivets in the rack, and additional miscellaneous repairs. Upon completion of design and construction, LKB performed construction inspection services.
