West Islip Drop-In/Distribution Center Generator

About this Project

LKB was retained by the Town of Islip to provide electrical engineering services for this project, which includes the installation of a 125 KW natural gas emergency generator for a senior center in the Town of West Islip. This project falls under the NY Rising Community Reconstruction (NYRCR) Program of the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery (GOSR). The intent is for the generator to provide reliable backup power that can be accessed by the entire community and particularly its elderly citizens in the event of potential major storms.

LKB performed electrical design and is overseeing construction of a backup generator, transfer switch, concrete base pad and other required associated equipment. The scope also required tapping the gas line to extend the existing National Grid service to the proposed generator location and to the new meter pad per National Grid requirements.

LKB reviewed design requirements, presented proposed design, and performed field surveys to gather information regarding existing load. LKB provided engineering services which included a preliminary design report and a detailed design, for the preparation of a publicly biddable package. LKB provided bid support and is currently providing construction support services and will provide final inspection support upon completion of the job.
